Join us for an after-school art club led by a visual arts educator. Over the six-week series of workshops kids will create a suite of artwork whilst investigating different making processes and art movements responding to SAM exhibitions and collections.

Week 1 – Drawing (observational)
We will do observational drawings of two artworks within the museum, then head back to the workshop space to complete more drawings of found objects.
Week 2 – Painting
Using drawings from week 1 (or new ones), we will learn basic painting techniques and create a painting from our drawings.
Week 3 – Ceramics
Using hand-building technqiues, including slab and coil, participants will create three-dimensional objects from clay. Works will be fired after allowing them to dry.
Week 4 – Printmaking: Relief printing (reduction method)
We will learn a relief printing technique using foam plates and tools, creating a one colour print.
Week 5 – Glazing
Participants will experiement with glazes and complete their ceramic artworks created in Week 3.
Week 6 –Screen Printing & Celebrating
Using hand cut stencils and silk screens, we will create a design for a tote bag.
We invite all parents and carers to share in the celebration of the work by having a mini-exhibition in the SAM Workshop room.
