Over the six-week series of workshops kids will create a suite of artwork whilst investigating different making processes and art movements responding to SAM exhibitions and collections.

Cost: $20 per individual drop-in session, please register by calling 03 5832 9861.

  • Week 1 – Drawing from observation
We will do observational drawings of two artworks within the museum, then head back to the workshop space to complete more drawings of found objects. These drawings will then guide us to design a sculpture.
  • Week 2 – Painting
Using drawings from week 1 (or new ones), we will learn basic painting techniques and create a painting from our drawings.
  • Week 3 – Painting & Sculpture continued
This will be an opportunity to finish both our paintings and the sculptures we began in week 1.
  • Week 4 – Printmaking: Relief printing (reduction method)
We will learn a relief printing technique using foam plates and tools, creating a one colour print. If time, we will also create a small linocut print.
  • Week 5 – Printmaking: Screen printing
Using hand cut stencils and silk screens, we will create a design for a tote bag.
  • Week 6 – Finishing
This week will be dedicated to finishing off any work that is not done. Parents and carers will be invited to share in the celebration of the work they have created by having a mini exhibition in the SAM Workshop room.

Kids only zone!

A minimum of 10 participants is required to run the program.
