Nicholas Young returns to Shepparton to perform the well-received debut album Introspection by Melbourne art music composer Alan Griffiths.

Internationally acclaimed concert pianist and 'Young Steinway Artist' Nicholas Young returns to Shepparton to perform the repertoire from Griffiths' well-recieved debut album Introspection, an anthology of piano pieces composed over a 27-year period in between film scoring jobs. In total Griffiths scored 25 films including 2 feature films and produced the well-received theatre musical Autogeddon for the 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
With influences ranging from Gershwin, to Satie, Horner and Rachmaninov, 'Griffiths really has developed his own style... he can be confident in calling all of his compositions uniquely his own.' Introspection's repertoire 'ebbs and flows, rising to pitches of excitement, then lapsing back into melancholy. That is scarcely an unusual expressive combination, but it is achieved with great skill...He has established himself as an accomplished composer and his introspections justify close listening.'
Amongst Young's many achievements he won both the 2016 Michael Kieran Harvey Piano Scholarship and the 2016 Allison/Henderson Sydney Eisteddfod Scholarship, Australia's 2 most prestigious piano schoalrships.
In 2015 Young won First Prize and Best Beethoven Performance of the 2015 ‘Grand Prize Virtuoso’ International Music Competition (London); was Finalist and received Honourable Mention at the 7th International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition; won 3rd Prize in the 15th Rome International Piano Competition; received Honourable Mentions at the 7th International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition (Vienna) and 1st International Cochran Piano Competition.
In 2014 Young was invited to perform with the Vienna International Orchestra as part of the Vienna ConcertoFest concert series.
On 2012 Young came 2nd in the Australia National Piano Awards in Shepparton.
Young has given performances in such iconic venues including the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, London Wigmore Hall & Steinway Hall, Munich Gasteig and Vienna Ehrbar Hall. He has also appeared as soloist with the West Australian, Queensland, Adelaide and Willoughby Symphony Orchestras, working with international conductors including Nicholas Braithwaite, Vladimir Verbitsky and Edvard Tchivzhel.
