The Orchestra will perform a series of free Sunday afternoon Chamber Concerts, beginning on Sunday 19 August.

After such a successful June concert, members of the GVCO have selected their own repertoire to present for the Chamber Concert Series. This is a great chance for GVCO members to explore a vast array of music in all sorts of instrumental combinations, hone their skills in smaller ensembles or as soloists, whilst forming new friendships within the orchestra and bring three exciting and varied programs to the community. We hope you will come along to all three concerts!

Members of the orchestra will perform in smaller groups every Sunday afternoon for three weeks, providing music lovers with plenty of variety while showcasing the region’s finest instrumentalists and musicians.

Audiences can expect a wonderful variety of musical styles. The opening concert on August 19 will include performances by the Shepparton String Ensemble directed by Wendy Oakes, the Fitette String Quartet, a Flute Duo and choir 36 Degrees South as well as soloists Sherryn McDonald (voice) and Liesl Parnell (violin).

The Percussion Ensemble directed by Bruce Archibald, a Clarinet Ensemble and Flute Trio will feature at the August 26 Concert, along with our much loved vocalists Felicity McCowan and Renee Rankin and jazz musos Brian Matthews and Wade Gregory.

We welcome the winner of the 2017 Shepparton Young Instrumentalist Award, Viv Brereton, to the stage for the final concert on September 2 which will also include performances by our Brass Quintet and Woodwind/Piano Trio. Soloists include Steven Sargant (trumpet) and Bruce Sterling (piano). This final concert will also feature an original composition by GVCO member, Caleb Noller, as a special Father’s Day treat.

“Music plays a vital role in developing and inspiring our community, so it is wonderful to present a more relaxed style of musical performance that is accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds” said Ken Cameron, Manager Performing Arts and Conventions at Riverlinks, Greater Shepparton City Council.

“Each Sunday program is varied with something for everybody. The musicians have spent a lot of their spare time rehearsing so we’re looking forward to giving them the opportunity to play.”

The series is proudly presented by Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra in partnership with Riverlinks.

Make a day of it, visit Eastbank Café for Sunday lunch or a coffee prior to the performance.
