The month of Ramadan is a significant time for the Islamic community and a great opportunity to share our traditions, a meal and demonstrate our solidarity, unity and collaboration.
The month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the islamic Calendar and observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammed (sav). For Muslims, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. This annual observance is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam.
Every day during Ramadan Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, fasting requires the abstinence from food and drink. It is a common practice while breaking fast to share a meal with community members, friends and extended family etc.
The iftar will be followed by a Speed Date a Muslim. This session is not your regular Speed Date Event. This is an opportunity in a safe environment to ask Muslim women about their faith and culture, and learn something new about someone in your community.
