Murchison Meteorite Collection

When: Friday 27 to Sunday 29 September 2019 at 9.00am to 4.00pm each day.
Where: Murchison Heritage Centre, Stevenson Street, Murchison
Cost: Free for children under 18 years. Adults gold coin donation

Meteorite Display and Short Films

View the famous meteorite and short films about its landing all weekend. Enjoy a solar viewing by the famous David Reneke on Friday only.

Dinner Under the Stars

Share an amazing ‘Dinner with the Stars’ with this exclusive event. Part of the 50th Anniversary of the Murchison Meteorite.

Longleat will be showcasing their local wines as well as a delicious meal and a sound and light show to help mark the official opening of the Murchison Meteorite 50th Anniversary.

Your evening will commence with canapes and a welcome drink before you take your seat at a long share table under twinkling lights. You’ll be presented with course after course of the season’s most delicious produce, including wine.

Make new friends, share great food and enjoy flowing conversation under the night sky with local entertainment adding to the mood for a starlight evening to remember.

Murchison Meteorite Presentations by Leading Scientists

Come and enjoy public talks across the two days will feature speakers from the Chicago’s Field Museum, NASA, the European Space Agency, Macquarie University, the Australian National University, Curtin University, University of NSW, and the University of Melbourne.

Centred on the Murchison Meteorite, topics will include:

  • evidence of a pre-solar history,
  • conditions in the early stages of the solar system,
  • the occurrence of amino acids and other organic molecules,
  • formation of the Earth,
  • meteor impacts,
  • the emergence of life,
  • and the Rosetta mission to land on a potential Murchison parental meteor.

Who is David Reneke? David Reneke, one of Australia’s most well-known and respected amateur astronomers and lecturers, has over 50 year’s experience in astronomy with links to some of the world’s leading astronomical institutions.

David is the Editor for Australia’s Astro-Space News Magazine, past news editor of Sky & Space Magazine and is now affiliated as a writer and publicist for the prestigious Australasian Science magazine.

David teaches astronomy at college level, is an invited speaker at astronomy conventions throughout Australia, a feature writer for major Australian newspapers, and is a science correspondent for ABC and commercial radio stations.

In these weekly radio interviews David regularly appears on over 60 networked stations across Australia with all the latest news and on general astronomy and space discovery issues. David’s audience numbers around 4 million listeners weekly!
